Robert Cresswell is an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) at Gordian Financial Services Ltd.
His career providing financial advice to clients started in 1991 and through a series of moves from a mortgage adviser through AXA Equity and Law’s tied sales force he progressed to become an Independent Adviser and in 2009 he established his own practice, Gordian Financial Services Ltd.
The Gordian Knott is a Greek legend associated with the solving of complex problems and Robert felt there was a strong link between this legend and what he sees as a crucial element of providing financial advice, having the creativity to find solutions to client’s needs using the myriad of financial products that exist.
Robert has continually developed his industry knowledge and holds the advanced industry examination as a Pension Specialist. This enables him to advise clients on all pension matters including final salary pensions. This lead him into working with family lawyers and helping divorcing couples achieve a division of their assets on divorce, including their pensions.
Resolution is the governing body for family lawyers who support a non-litigious approach to divorce and for the first time in 2006 they provided training and an accreditation program for |FAs. There was a high entry criteria to be considered for the training program and Robert had sufficient experience, the right qualifications and support from family lawyers to be accepted onto the program.
He gained accreditation after passing their stringent examination and has continued to hold the accreditation at renewal when many IFAs failed to secure sufficient hours of specialised activity of advising clients through their divorce process.
Any suitably qualified adviser can implement a pension sharing order but it takes experience of the divorce process and working with hundreds of clients to appreciate the impact and seek out solutions that help both people separate their assets in the best way possible for both of them.
ln his spare time Robert enjoys walking with his family particularly in the Lake District where he combines the love of the Lakes with his interest in digital photography. He is a very keen archer and occasional golfer when time permits.
